Ammo – Making It Takes More Than Money

ammo, ammunition

It is impossible to determine the number of rounds of ammo produced per year in any country.  The Small Arms Survey located in Geneva is one of the largest, if not the largest, non-governmental groups attempting to track arms and ammo production throughout the world.  Even they acknowledge that due to the numerous manufacturers making many varieties of ammunition for the civilian and military markets, the data is scattered.  Another factor is that manufacturers are less than forthcoming about their production statistics.  Suffice it say that the quantity is enormous.

The Small Arms Survey is an independent research project located at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, Switzerland. It serves as the principal international source of public information on all aspects of small arms and armed violence and as a resource for governments, policy-makers, researchers, and activists. The project has an international staff with expertise in security studies, political science, international public policy, law, economics, development studies, conflict resolution, criminology, and sociology. The staff works closely with a worldwide network of researchers and partners. © Small Arms Survey

Lured on by the large numbers of ammo made at this time, MfgAmmunition, a subsidiary of GreasyMachines, is approached frequently by parties having adequate cash but very little knowledge about making ammo.  Sometimes we feel that people considering producing ammo think that it is a simple turn-key operation.  Throw enough money at it and you can manufacture ammunition.

Surely money is required. A lot of it.  However the keys are obtaining production machinery and most of all finding toolmakers to set up and run the equipment.  Money is the easy part. Hiring skilled toolmakers is the hard part

Obtaining raw materials is a challenge.  There is a world-wide shortage of gun powder and primer chemicals.

We will help you find the equipment that you will need, but come to us with eyes open.  Start by hiring key personnel.  We cannot help you there.
